Bespoke team strengths workshop
Home » Eurofins Case Study
Eurofins is a global leader in laboratory testing, specialising in areas like food safety, water quality, and pharmaceutical analysis. Their operations are international with offices spanning Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia.
Background
This was our first collaboration between Eurofins and Clevry’s Business Psychology team. Eurofins were organising a team away event and were looking for experts who could deliver a team workshop for their Automation Champions – a group of project managers from a wide range of backgrounds (e.g., environmental science, engineering, chemistry), who are focused on identifying and implementing robotic automation in labs around the world. As the group work across different countries and time zones, they were interested in building closer relationships and collaboration.

Aims
The aims were to increase Automation Champions’ self-awareness and understanding of each other’s strengths, build stronger working relationships, and explore ways to collaborate more effectively across global teams. Key objectives included:
- Helping individuals reflect on and better understand their own strengths – both technical and interpersonal
- Creating space to recognise and appreciate the strengths of others in the team
- Exploring current collaboration habits – what’s working well and where there are opportunities to improve
- Encouraging discussion around practical, realistic ways of working more closely across locations
- Providing tangible actions to take away, so the conversation continues beyond the workshop
Overview
We delivered a half-day Team Strengths Workshop as part of Eurofins’ annual team away event, which took place in Porto, Portugal. The workshop brought together 30 participants, mostly Automation Champions, and was designed to be practical, engaging, and relevant to their day-to-day work at Eurofins.
Discovery
Ahead of the session, we ran a focus group with a selection of project managers to better understand:
- What collaboration looks like for them
- Examples of where it has worked well
- Common challenges and areas for improvement
This helped us tailor the session by using realistic scenarios, relevant language, and examples the Automation Champions could relate to. Participants also completed a personality questionnaire, which fed into a team strengths report used during the session.
Workshop Activities
The session was designed to be interactive and hands-on, with a mix of discussion, group activities, and reflection. Key elements included:
- Welcome & Icebreaker – An energising start, helping participants get to know each other while exploring how they prefer to work
- Team Dynamics Discussion – Reflecting on personal experiences of strong (and not-so-strong) teams
- Strengths-Based Interviews – Paired conversations focused on what individuals enjoy and where they thrive at work
- Team Strengths Framework – Introducing Clevry’s Team Strengths model and mapping out the team’s collective strengths
- Tailored Group Challenge – Teams worked through a real Eurofins scenario, moving through stages of idea generation, planning, implementing, and influencing.
- Action Planning – Small groups identified key challenges and proposed realistic solutions for improving collaboration
- Workbook – Participants used a workshop diary to capture ideas, reflections, and action points throughout
We also collected key insights and ideas from the session to share with the project sponsors, ensuring no good ideas were lost and giving them a springboard for continued development.
Evaluation & Feedback
Following the delivery of the workshop, we conducted an anonymous feedback survey which generated the following results:
- 91% of participants agreed or strongly agreed that the session was helpful for personal self-awareness and development.
- 91% considered the content relevant and clearly communicated.
- 100% thought the content was engaging
The workshop was a pleasure to facilitate for our colleagues at Eurofins. Hearing everyone reflect on their own style and appreciate the strengths of their teammates made the session especially rewarding and reminded us just how valuable these conversations are. It was also great to hear that most colleagues found the workshop helpful in deepening their understanding of others’ strengths.
We spent some time reflecting on the session afterwards. With a group of 30 colleagues, one of the challenges was facilitating the exercises in a way that encouraged meaningful interaction. To support this, we made a conscious effort to mix up delegates so they could connect with a range of colleagues. By working closely with Eurofins, we ensured everyone had the opportunity to collaborate with different people throughout the activities.
A key takeaway for us is the importance of giving a little more time for these discussions. Based on this experience, we plan to extend future Team Strengths workshops by 30 minutes to allow for extended delegate discussions.
Qualitative Feedback
- Participants enjoyed the reflective and interactive format
- Participants appreciated the inclusion of activities and group exercises, rather than “plain info”
- Participants enjoyed the collaborative aspects of the workshop
Key Takeaways
Participants found the workshop engaging, well-communicated, and helpful for increasing their self-awareness whilst providing good insights into others’ strengths.
“The Clevry Teams Strengths Workshop was highly encouraging for our team, and we believe that the take aways from the pre-workshop self-awareness exercise and workshop itself will enable our team’s collaboration to improve and with that, enhance our overall project delivery. The Clevry team represented by Alexandra and Preeya are great facilitators for hosting such a workshop, and were very available both in the planning phase of the workshop and post workshop to follow up and ensure feedback is collected”
