However, building and then maintaining a motivated and engaged workforce isn\u2019t as easy as it sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The risks or poor employee engagement<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clevry.com\/en\/blog\/causes-of-low-employee-engagement\/\">Low employee engagement<\/a> can impact more than just how an employee feels about working for your organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s an old saying that goes something like \u2018\u2019one rotten apple can spoil the bunch\u2019\u2019, and while we don\u2019t agree with referring to people as \u2018rotten\u2019 (or apples), this can be true of employee engagement and the effect it can have on the rest of your workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From disrupting a previously harmonious work environment to decreasing morale and increased costs, poor employee engagement can create a knock on effect that can cause a company to stagnate over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By following some basic employee engagement tips, most organisations will be able to circumvent this to a large degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Employee engagement statistics 2024<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One Gallup study, conducted in November 2023, found that global employee engagement sits at 23%, a 2% increase from the previous year (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/394373\/indicator-employee-engagement.aspx#:~:text=Employee%20Engagement%20Trend-,Line%20chart.,and%2017%25%20are%20actively%20disengaged.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Gallup<\/a>) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compared with 2020 employee engagement data, employees generally still feel more detached from, and less satisfied with their organisations, and are less likely to connect to the companies\u2019 mission and purpose (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/608675\/new-workplace-employee-engagement-stagnates.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Gallup<\/a>)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>40% of respondents were considered highly engaged employees, which increased to 60% when organisations acted on social issues\u200b (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.happeo.com\/blog\/employee-statistics-you-need-to-know\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Happeo<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organisations offering flexible working options saw 55% of their workforce as high performers, compared to 36% in traditional non-flexible 40-hour work weeks (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.happeo.com\/blog\/employee-statistics-you-need-to-know\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Happeo<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>87% of employees expect their employer to support them in balancing work and personal life (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.happeo.com\/blog\/employee-statistics-you-need-to-know\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Happeo<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>79% of employees who quit their jobs cite a lack of appreciation as a key reason for leaving (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.happeo.com\/blog\/employee-statistics-you-need-to-know\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Happeo<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>63.3% of companies say retaining employees is harder than hiring them\u200b (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.happeo.com\/blog\/employee-statistics-you-need-to-know\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Happeo<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Companies that allow remote work have a 25% lower employee turnover rate\u200b (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.happeo.com\/blog\/employee-statistics-you-need-to-know\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Happeo<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently only 45% of employees clearly know what is expected of them at work. Unclear expectations often contribute towards poorer employee engagement (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/608675\/new-workplace-employee-engagement-stagnates.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Gallup<\/a>)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One study found that receiving feedback on a weekly basis improved employee engagement by as much as 43% (<a href=\"https:\/\/smallbiztrends.com\/2023\/05\/employee-engagement-statistics.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Smallbiztrends<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highly engaged business nofollow\">Smallbiztrends<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>87% of employees are less likely to leave a job if they are engaged (<a href=\"https:\/\/smallbiztrends.com\/2023\/05\/employee-engagement-statistics.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Smallbiztrends<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>80% of millennials think it\u2019s okay to quit a job if it\u2019s not what they expected (<a href=\"https:\/\/smallbiztrends.com\/2023\/05\/employee-engagement-statistics.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Smallbiztrends<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work flexibility was cited as the top reason for job hunting in 2023, equally important as career progression\u200b\u200b, with 28% of respondents saying that work flexibility was the main motivation for staying in their job (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.achievers.com\/resources\/white-papers\/workforce-institute-2023-engagement-and-retention\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Achievers<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>73% of employees would consider leaving their jobs for the right offer, even if they weren&#8217;t actively looking (<a href=\"https:\/\/haiilo.com\/blog\/employee-engagement-8-statistics-you-need-to-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Haiilo<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>37% of employees consider recognition the most important factor for their success\u200b at work (<a href=\"https:\/\/haiilo.com\/blog\/employee-engagement-8-statistics-you-need-to-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Haiilo<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One study by Quantum Workplace found that the pandemic has drastically changed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clevry.com\/en\/blog\/8-advantages-of-a-well-defined-organisational-culture\/\">organisational culture<\/a> with 42% of employees saying that their culture has improved, while 21% of those surveyed said it had declined (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.quantumworkplace.com\/future-of-work\/employee-engagement-trends\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Quantumworkplace<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>19% of HR professionals are concerned about losing their jobs, a 12% increase over 2022 (<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.accessperks.com\/2023-employee-engagement-loyalty-statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">AccessPerks<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Job satisfaction among Gen Z is only at 60% in 2023 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.metlife.com\/workforce-insights\/2023-employee-benefit-trends\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Metlife<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>60% of HR professionals are more stressed today than they were 3 years ago (<a href=\"https:\/\/go.mcleanco.com\/2023_hr_trends_ga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">McLean<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employees who believe their company to be transparent have 8.8x greater job satisfaction (<a href=\"https:\/\/futureforum.com\/research\/future-forum-pulse-winter-2022-2023-snapshot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Future Forum<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One Gartner survey from June 2023, of over 3000 people, found that those who reported being energised and excited about their work were 31% more likely to stay with their company, 31% more likely to go above and beyond, and contributed 15% more (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2023-10-24-rhr-gartner-hr-research-finds-only-31-percent-of-employees-report-they-are-engaged#:~:text=A%20June%202023%20Gartner%20survey,and%20they%20contribute%2015%25%20more.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Gartner<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organisations that support their managers in engagement action planning, can increase employee engagement by as much as 51% (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2023-10-24-rhr-gartner-hr-research-finds-only-31-percent-of-employees-report-they-are-engaged#:~:text=A%20June%202023%20Gartner%20survey,and%20they%20contribute%2015%25%20more.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Gartner<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A June 2023 survey by Gartner found that 40% of employees would prefer their organisation fixed difficult processes rather than providing development opportunities (<a that is likely to continue due to ongoing economic uncertainty (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/547283\/workplace-trends-leaders-watch-2024.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Gallup<\/a>)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>51% of currently employed workers said they are watching for or actively seeking a new job. Gallup data consistently show that engaging employees can create a moat of protection around them (Gallup)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>53% percent of employees said now is a good time to find a job where they live, a sharp increase from the previous year and close to the record high in 2019.
